Communication Skills by Delaney - September 2014 Scholarship Essay

Imagine a world without communication. Everyone is filled with confusion and no one is capable of listening to another. Ideas are never shared and are soon lost and forgotten. How would the world progress with this lifestyle? That’s right; it wouldn’t. Communication skills are one of the most important traits a person can possess.

As a freshman in college, I believe I have obtained many talents and skills throughout my education. My communication skills are quite excellent and they have gotten me very far in my life already. Not only has it gotten me good grades on presentations, but it also has landed me a job that every high school student and college freshman dream of.

My freshman year in high school I interviewed at SC Johnson in Bay City for a intern position they had available. I walked into the interview with confidence and showed my communication and work abilities very well. They were very impressed and called me to offer the job not even an hour later. This was a very proud moment in my life and I could not have done it without my communication skills.

In the classroom I can also use these skills to help me continue my education. Communication isn't just about talking in front of people. Communication also includes being a good listener, following directions, and obtaining information from what people and professors have to share. Listening is just as important as speaking; if not more important. I feel that this is a very great skill to possess because it makes learning easier for me and I do very well.

Communication skills are one of the most important traits a person can possess in order to be successful. According to advancelifeskills.com, studies have shown that 85% percent of our success in life is directly attributable to our communication skills. This is just another prime example of why I think my skills are very important and will help me be successful in my education process and throughout the rest of my life path and career.
