New Year's Resolution by Deja - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

A New Year’s resolution that will help me become a better student in 2016 is to be more positive. A positive attitude brings optimism and motivates toward success. Positivism allows your life to be content and more successful. Positivism is important because it is a great way to improve your well-being and the overall quality of your life. Being positive will enhance your mindset, and persona. This will help me greatly develop potential qualities of self-motivation, and ambition. I must attempt to remain open-minded and be able to observe and value the good and bad in things.
I am a student of Fort Lauderdale High School enrolled in their magnet Cambridge program. I manage to take AICE, AP, and Honors classes while still participating in extracurricular activities and going to work after school hours. I am an ambitious student planning on attending a four-year college in order to attain my bachelor’s degree in either pharmacy or nursing. My New Year’s resolution of being positive will help pursue my career of becoming a pharmacist, or a pediatrician. Since my 11th grade year, my focus has always been these two careers, and by that I always chose to highly excel in my science classes. However, I am financially struggling to accomplish these goals but I am mentally prepared and determined to succeed. I am aware that if I do not stay on track and remain driven that I will fail to receive this opportunity of reaching my goals in education and my career.
I also have a side interest in photography. I want to take pictures of people and nature. Photography gives me a sense of conformity and peace. It really helps soothe my mind and brings me to a place of serenity. People say you should have a job that you enjoy, otherwise you will be miserable your whole life. I refuse for this to happen to me, which is why I will keep a positive mentality to succeed. I know that all of my goals will remain dreams if I do not continue to be strong-willed and positive, therefore, I am committed to working hard in school and looking for opportunities that could help make my goals a reality.
