When I first embarked on my research project, I felt both excited and overwhelmed. I had a vision of contributing something meaningful to the field of medicine, but the path forward was unclear. That changed when I met Dan Li, a PhD student at Yale and dedicated researcher, who became my mentor and guide throughout the process. Under her guidance, what started as an abstract idea transformed into a tangible accomplishment: my first published research paper, achieved in under a year.

Dan Li’s impact on my educational journey went beyond the technical aspects of research. From the outset, she emphasized the importance of curiosity and persistence. I vividly remember our first meeting when she asked me, “What do you want to do in your life?” This question set the tone for our work together. I explained to her how I wanted to be a doctor, specifically performing C-section surgeries, a dream sparked when I witnessed my first C-section at the hospital. She encouraged me to dive deep into understanding the complexities of diabetes, from its cellular mechanisms to its impact on patients’ lives. Looking back, I realize that Dan Li’s mentorship was a pivotal moment in my educational journey.
