Junior Year by Daniela - March 2023 Scholarship Essay

Junior year of high school was a year in which I challenged myself by taking 2 AP classes. I took AP Lang and AP US History. Between the 2 classes, I could say I enjoyed AP Lang the most. It allowed me to be more expressive and outspoken through writing. AP US History on the other hand, I struggled with the most and not just because of the work assigned.
AP US History was a class for me that had to do a lot of memorization in order to do the DBQ's and LEQ's. History has always been my favorite subject, but during the first semester I just couldn't get through it. So I worked harder and pushed myself to study more whenever I had time. I would even use class time to review my work if we had a test that day or not. I knew I could do better, but I wasn't getting any better. The day before finals I met with my counselor to drop the class. When asked what was my reason to want to drop the class. My response was I just couldn't manage it well along with my other classes.
So, I finally worked up the courage to ask my AP US History teacher for permission to drop the class. My teacher automatically didn't agree with me. He believed what I was doing was a dumb and not good for me. He then proceeded to give me all of winter break to think it over before giving me permission.
When returning from break, I was more focused in class and put in all of my work into passing. I was able to end the class with a B. It allowed me to grow and learn from my mistakes. I was better at time management than before. I am proud of myself that I didn't give into saying that I was sure about dropping the class and that I kept attending class with a better work ethic. I worked my way up to the goal I set for myself and I accomplished it.
