A Dream School Characteristic by Daniel - August 2020 Scholarship Essay

As a student who is still attending a small community college, I am more familiar with a smaller, more closely knit student program. At my current school, there are several core programs offered, alongside several smaller ones. In the engineering program, which I am enrolled in, there are no more than a dozen professors, while there can be over a hundred students
My ideal university would be structured as such. While there may be thousands of students in a single program, it could be divided into several smaller groups. This would not only allow for more social growth within each group, but it would also reduce and simplify the work and stress placed on faculty. This would also allow for more personal and down-to-earth connections between the student and instructor, unlike some university programs in which hundreds of students are enrolled in a single class or seminar. It could be likened to the military, in which one division or program is divided into parts, each with its own authority and staff.
This would make the university unique in that it would have more rigidly structured educational and social systems, with each section creating a bonded group of students who can effectively work and communicate with each other and their instructors. This system has greatly benefited my school, myself, and my classmates, since most of us share classes with many of the same instructors. I hope that this system, while kept on a similar scale, can be added to and implemented to more schools. This would be my dream university.
