An Extra Day in Our Lives by Dana - August 2019 Scholarship Essay
During our lives, there are many years behind us that have taught us many things. But, do we think of every year as the same, or do we notice the difference of days every four years? Each four years, we have an extra day in which we can do anything that we want. However, do we know how to make the most of it?
An extra day is what we have every four years. But, what do we do with it? What do I do with it? When I think of a gap year, I think of one more day that we get to live that year. An extra day that, I believe, we can or should do anything that we wouldn’t do in the next three years. With the gap year, I would try and do something that I wouldn’t do in a regular year. I could go and eat something that would be out of my comfort zone. This could be a tradition that I could make every four years. Another way that I could make the most of a gap year is that I could go on vacation across the globe and see places that I would never have thought to see. But, that is only me. I could also make the most of my gap year with my family.
Family can be the most important thing to someone. They could spend their time with them most of the year or, if they are busy, they can see them on special occasions. Either way, they still meet up. I know that I would. Henceforth, I would like to make as much as I could with my family. Every gap year, we could make a cookout with the whole family, or even with the closest relatives that we have. It wouldn’t matter, as long as we have somebody that we can spend that extra day with. A gap year gives us what the following three years don’t.
An extra day. Even though it is every four years, it is still an extra day that we have in our lives. What we do with it and how we make the most of it is up to us.
