The First Year by Damaris - November 2016 Scholarship Essay
I feel that I'm going to be the most thankful for my first year of college because I feel that it's going to be the most effective in pursuing my career. That first year is going to determine what path I want to take as a career because it's going to be filled with a lot of new experiences. Having an open mind about things in college and trying new things, new options is important to me because life is too short to be doing boring things! I feel that keeping in open mind leads you to having a lot of options and it does not limit you from having just a couple of options, but a range of options and ideas. I am an adventurer and I seek for challenges so that I could strive in the future.
I also think that challenging yourself pushes you to do better and you also have the ability to discover new things about yourself that you never knew about. The first year of college is also going to definitely influence my creativity because right now I am getting more in touch with my creative ideas and I'm developing them little by little. The first year, I know I'm going to be making new connections, new friends and create a sense of place that's special to me; like a second home, my academic career.
Being a first generation in my family and being first generation American, to be able to go to college is really exciting to me because my parents never got the chance to even go to middle school because they had to give up their studies to work and help maintain their families. The level of thankfulness is going to be a lot for me because I feel privileged to be given the opportunity to extend my education and pursue in a career that I'm going to enjoy for the rest of my life.
