Post-Secondary Enrollment Options Program by Dala - March 2014 Scholarship Essay

Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) for high school students is a college bound program which paves the paths for future college participants who are currently enrolled in high school. Being only eligible for high school students, there are certain requirements that need to be met to be able to be admitted into the program, of which can earn their Post-Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO) students college credits, and then of which can also be transferred to another college institution if need be. Having been enrolled in this program as a junior, and now as a senior in high school, being a Post-Secondary Enrollment Options student is the proudest academic achievement I have achieved in my undergraduate career and has proved its great benefits.

Starting out, I was first enrolled as a PSEO student at Northwestern University, located in Saint Paul, Minnesota. It was there at Northwestern that I took the courses: Western Civilization, and Composition I. Taking these courses online began as a challenge because being new to the entire program, school, and courses, I wasn’t familiar with the navigation of the website being used for their PSEO program, nor was I able to efficiently, or at times correctly, able to communicate with my classmates or professors. Writing three separate essays for my Composition course and taking around seven or more exams for my Western Civilization course, I was able to pass my classes with an exceptional grade for the work I had completed.

After completing my first semester as a part-time PSEO student, I decided to try something different by transferring over to Century College, located in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, still as a PSEO student, for an on campus experience. It was there at Century College that I took Macroeconomics and Composition II, as what I consider my first two official college courses. Providing me with a great on campus college experience, after the completion of my first semester, it was why I decided to continue and commit my last semester of high school as a full-time PSEO student at Century College.

Still enrolled as a full-time PSEO student by taking 12 credits, I am busy as ever with my academics, college planning and my part-time job at Panera Bread. Today with my courses Psychology, Bioethics, and African American Literature, I hope to pursue a career in the medical field. Hoping to provide me with another great experience and excellent guidance, I have been accepted to St. Thomas University, Minnesota’s largest private school in the state.

With my most credited and proud self-accomplishment as a PSEO student, I have cut down my college tuition by over a full semester and have shown what I as an individual can accomplish through my commitment, determination and hard work. As an outcome of having/being a PSEO student are a great sense of accomplishment and pride in my work and credibility as an experienced high school student, moving forward onto college.
