More than just a degree by Curren - November 2016 Scholarship Essay

I will be most proud of the education I am going to get. I know that sounds cheesy, but hear me out. I will be learning more than the education I am paying for, I will gain more knowledge than my degree says. For this reason, I yearn for the education I will get outside the classroom as well as in.
Sure, I am going to college to get a 4-year degree in aerospace engineering, but I am going to gain more than just that. I will learn techniques and skills that will help me advance in more than what my degree says. I will learn how to become an adult, as I follow the college experience. I will learn how to cook for myself and make a decent meal. I will learn how to prioritize my time properly, and stop procrastinating long term projects and assignments. I will learn how to be more of a man, and love the experiences I get along with it.
College is great for getting a degree in the field you are looking for, but also becoming an adult. We should get degrees for becoming adults and maturing over just a few years in college. Adulthood hits us hard in college, and I think I will learn a lot from the trial and error needed to get throughout college. I will also get the luxury of being on my own. This is the test before I finally go out on my own. It will be bittersweet as an adult, but I can go anywhere, do anything I want without worry (within reason of course). I look forward to learning what it takes to be an adult and the perks that go along. College will teach me this.
I look forward to the knowledge I will gain being in college, especially the education outside of the classroom. I will learn more than what my degree says, I will learn what it takes to be an adult. I look forward to the experiences I will have in college.
