Influential Hermione by Crysta - April 2014 Scholarship Essay
In the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling the character Hermione Granger was very influential for me. She stood for what she believed was right and didn't let others decide her future for her.
Throughout the series she endures many hardships along with her friends Ron and Harry. She would be considered the brains of the group. She is constantly studying and working hard to keep her grades up. She stays strong in this aspect even when everyone around her is blowing school off and it gets harder and harder to stay focused. I believe a lot of girls can relate to what she goes through. The distraction of boys, skipping school, or not doing schoolwork is all very tempting. And although she struggles when it comes to deciding to give in to peer pressure or stand her ground she chooses the latter. I admire Hermione for this. She is a smart, proud, independent girl who knows what’s right. She takes school seriously and urges others to do the same.
Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling has influenced me in a way I never would have imagined possible. When I've come across a hardship in my life I stop and think about how Hermione would decide what to do. She would think though it logically, take her time, and make sure it doesn't interfere with her beliefs. I look to her as a role model for what women in today’s society should be like, strong, independent, educated, and hardworking. She knows what she wants and won’t stop until she gets it. She learns from her mistakes and grows from them. I always keep in mind that with hard work my goals are always within reach.
