Parents by Claudia - January 2018 Scholarship Essay
The word that I chose is parents. I chose the word parents because they have always motivated me to do great in school and be someone. They have told me of all of their struggles that they have gone through in order to give me and my siblings the best education. As well, at the end of the day, I want to make them proud and show them that all of the struggles that they went through have been paid off.
Ever since I was small my parents have always motivated me to do my best in school. To really focus and do great because in order for me to become someone I had to really focus on school. Throughout my school years, they not only motivated me to do great academically but as well outside of academics such as sports. Whenever I and my family go to the park we would always play a sport. A sport that I really enjoyed playing was basketball not only because my mom was good at it but because I enjoyed playing. When I was able to finally play basketball in Elementary School I told my parents if I could join and I did. They were really supportive of it although they never went to my games because of work I was still happy because I like the sport. Going to High School I was not sure if I should be in the International Baccalaureate Program because of how rigorous it would be. I talked to my parents about it and they always told me to do what will benefit me, and that's what I did. I joined the International Baccalaureate Program and it was worth the decision because they will teach us in a new perspective. They taught us different things that we wouldn't normally learn and made us think outside the box, it was a great experience. As well throughout my four years of High School, I was on the Basketball team. I had a great time and I was captain for two years and this time my parents were able to make it to one of my games and I was thrilled. I was happy that they could finally see me play a sport that I like so much because they introduce it to me first. That day they were my personal cheerleaders and it was just wonderful. Another event was when I got inducted into the National Honors Society in High School, my parents were there and that was the best. They could see how I was getting closer to achieving one of my goals. My parents have always tried to be in my important life events, they are not always there because of work but, in the end of the day, they are the ones that keep pushing me to achieve the best.
My parents weren't able to obtain an education and because of it, they have faced many struggles in life. Such as being discriminated because of not having an education. Not being able to find a decent job and instead, they have to work a really hard job to be paid just the minimum wage. Therefore, they have always told me and my siblings to get a degree and have a better life than they did. They don't want us to suffer what they suffer because of not having an education. My parents always give us advice and hope for us to take, and I do.
As I said before at the end of the day I want to make them proud and show them that all of the struggles that they went through have been paid off. I want my parents to see me how I complete my goal. For them to see how I graduate and become an Anesthesiologist. To thank them for everything that they have done in order for me to be where I am. For all of those night shifts, over time and nightless sleep have been paid off. Yes, I want to make them proud, but I know I will be happier than them because I will finally make it and because I will be the one seeing their faces once I make it.
