Practice practice! by Claire - May 2016 Scholarship Essay
Eager to learn, grow, and get an A! Whether in high school or college, the final exam often counts for the greatest amount of points. It is in our genes to thrive, and we students are driven towards an A so that we can get a good GPA and make our loved ones proud. There is no magic smoothie or life hack that can turn anyone into a genius, there is no amount of coffee that can turn a confused pupil into an academically outstanding one. The first key to preparing for finals is to be well rested and well fed. The next step is to figure out what type of learner you are. Discovering what type of learner you are is vital to become an efficient student. You may not have the same method of understanding information as your classmates. To be an efficient student means acquiring a skill in a reasonable amount of time. I am an auditory and a read-write learner, therefore I introduce to you my best method to studying for final exams.
1. Keep all of your notes until it's time for finals
2. Collect all your notes taken over the semester
3. Rewrite all of the notes notes that you forgot over time
Finally, in order to memorize the new notes, find examples related to the topics you have trouble with, and practice them. For instance, if you have trouble memorizing a mathematical formula, repeat the formula in different exercises until you've got it ingrained in your brain!
If it is 7 days until the exam, study for at least 20 minutes every day until then. If the final is in the morning, study the night before to make sure you have it all memorized. If it's in the evening, spend your morning doing this. This method has worked best for me every single time and I can guarantee it is worth a try!
Study well and study safe!
