First Year Generation by Citlali - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
My parents are born and from Mexico. They worked very hard to come to the United States to give me and my siblings a better life and education. My father unfortunately did not complete past grade six. My mother got her high school diploma, but was unable to attend college. Attending college is very important to me because I want to have a degree in nursing. Education is a very important asset in life that allows you to have a career and be successful. My parents worked hard in order to allow me to have a good education, so I believe that going to college will allow me to be happy and feel accomplished that I, in a way, repaid my parents for all of their hard work.
As a former ELD student, it would be one of my biggest achievements to go to a four year university as I was once told I could not do it. College allows a student to have a successful career and attain knowledge, confidence, academic and technical skills, career opportunities and social skills. College is very important to me because it can equip me with tools and knowledge that I need for life. College is extremely valuable to my future as I want to become a nurse.
In conclusion, college is extremely important to me as it is my first step to become successful in life and be able to be a first generation college student in my family.
