My new year's revolution is to help the needy and involved in community services by Christopher - January 2016 Scholarship Essay

New Year’s resolutions are like babies: They’re fun to make but extremely difficult to maintain. Every January, roughly one in three Americans resolve to better themselves in some ways. A much smaller percentage of people actually make good on those resolutions.
It's hard to keep up the enthusiasm months after you've swept up the confetti, but it's not impossible. My name is Christopher Adebunmi and this year, my new year's resolution is to help the needy and be involved in community services.
In 2015, I moved from Nigeria to the United states and then I tried to get a place to stay get a job and start college; did my best to get high grades. Basically, 2015 was just about me. So this year, the little God has blessed me with, I want to bless others.
First of all, when I start the spring term, I want to enroll in service learning. This is when I get to engage with a lot of people with big ideas to provide solution to communities. I want to be part of district project like building schools, residence houses and so on. I just do not want to get high grades in college, ( even many CEOs of the biggest companies were not the best in their classes). America is a great country today because of the generosity they show to their people and to the world. If there are crises in any part of the world, America is the front runner of all countries to provide help and solutions. That is why it remains the greatest country in the world.
Part of helping is to be a tutor in mathematics because I am good in mathematics and I am always worried and I feel pity when I hear students say they have troubles with their math courses. I try to tell my friends that math is simple. It just involves thinking and logic. I hope one day there will be an app that will make students understand math better. Travis Kalanick created Uber that will not make people wait 20 minutes and longer before they could get a taxi. I want to find a way to make myself understand my next math courses better and faster and then teach my peers having troubles in math that same way.
I think if I help people in 2016, it will make me fulfilled and become a better student and will also push me closer to my long term goal after college.
