Personal Success in College by Christian - February 2021 Scholarship Essay
Success to me is accomplishing my goals and dreams without giving up, settling, or compromising the things that are most important to me. It is also the ability to continually learn and grow so that I am always developing personally and academically. Success is setting goals for myself, trying my best to achieve those goals, and learning from my mistakes; not letting failures prevent me from second chances, but viewing them as opportunities to adjust, adapt, and try again.
When it comes to college success, many believe that true success comes at the end, evidenced by the degree, award, or job they get. In my personal opinion, true success is using the end goal, degree, or reward to further expand and improve myself during my college experience. College, to me, is an opportunity to broaden my horizons. I anticipate learning lessons in accountability and personal responsibility while living on campus, and I will have to learn time-management and the importance of prioritizing. In the college setting, both through campus interactions and in classrooms I expect my experiences to be incredibly diverse. These interactions should serve to improve my listening and communication skills as well as demonstrate new methods of learning and participation for me. I love to learn and will show a level of respect to my professors that is owed them due to their experience and will seek to learn as much from them in the subject matter as I can so I will be highly qualified and prepared in my field of study.
At the end of my college experience, I plan to do everything in my power to use the benefit of what I’ve learned to continue on successfully in life. I have heard of many people who earn a degree in college and do nothing with it, simply benefiting from a title in order to gain approval from others. This is something I do not want to do. After I get a degree, I will use it in the field of study that I have committed to and search for further ways to grow my knowledge.
College success for me will be exiting on the other side having cumulatively applied all of these skills and methods to help me realize my dreams and goals.
