Who has most inspired you academically, and how have they encourage your success? by Christian - October 2019 Scholarship Essay
Every student has a favorite teacher who inspires them to be the best student they can be. Every student has that teacher who see their full potential even when they cannot themselves see beyond the moment. Every student is driven in some way to succeed in school by someone they respect and idolize. The person who has inspired me academically and has challenged me to be the best individual I can become is my former middle school principal, Mrs. Deborah Porter. Mrs. Porter and I developed a bond my first year in middle school. Transitioning from elementary to middle school is very uneasy but she made me feel special each day by speaking to me and encouraging me to have a good day. Simple words that meant a lot to me during this time.
My parents transferred me from my old elementary school in second grade. This was the most fearful time of my life. Entering a new school with new faces and know friends caused me a lot of anxiety and fear but Mrs. Porter and my soon to be new teachers made me feel more at ease every day. At first, I encountered academic difficulties; however, through Tier II tutoring and hard work, my grades improved drastically. As a high school senior, I currently have a 3.8 GPA and a composite score of 19 on my ACT. I credit my success to my former principal and countless teachers who gave of themselves everyday just so I can succeed and become prepared for society and the work place. My next step is to graduate in May of 2020 and attend college. I realize that I do not have to be an administrator to inspire other students, but I can be myself and pass on the knowledge of education to others that was passed on to me. I will always appreciate and cherish Mrs. Porter, principal, of Northeast Middle School.
