Learnin' by Chelsea - November 2013 Scholarship Essay

During high school, I realized that I have a burning passion for learning. Nothing specific, just learning. When I walked into a classroom, I had a desire to learn all that I could. I wanted my brain, and subsequently myself, to grow and flourish. I began to gain a rather specific adroitness. I grew deeply interested in the minds of criminals. Murder, rape, you name it, I was hooked. I had a blazing drive to learn why people, specifically criminals, do the things they do. And I did my research. I checked out book after psychopathic book at the library, yearning to absorb every ounce of criminal info I could. This passion spurred growth in my character. I grew a strong sense of pride that I was so dedicated and passionate.

My desire to help didn’t end with forensic psychology. I volunteered for Clayton YES, a program that catered to underprivileged children, who could not get the necessary homework help they needed to be successful. I’ve always strongly felt that every child has something special inside of him or her, something that will benefit his or her home, community, or even the world. I had found many purposes of my existence, so I then wanted to guide others as they embarked on the same journey.

Winning this scholarship will open doors a little easier, and allow me to embark on my mission to help, both in and out of my career.
