Overcoming with Disability by Brinley - November 2019 Scholarship Essay
Last year was my first year of taking AP courses. I wasn't sure if I can be able to endure for a year with AP courses that I took; chemistry, English, and calculus. I was not confident about chemistry and English. I heard that chemistry is one of the complex subjects according to many people that have told me about. I was unfamiliar with chemistry. English was one of my least subjects to learn, so having an advanced placement English would be harder for me, especially when I am not good at writing. I decided to took both classes. I knew it will be challenging for me, but I was willing to take them, as they benefit me for college and the future. As I proceeded throughout the school year, I managed to pass successfully. There were some stressful times where I was overwhelm. I decided to ask my teachers for help despite my nervousness to ask. I have a disability, hearing loss in both ears. My chemistry teacher was concerning about me because of my disability. She didn't think that I will be able to endure and manage to keep a good grade in her class. I knew I have to ask if I want to get good grade. Hoping to get good grade in her class as well in all of my classes was one of my motivations that encouraged me to keep going. AP exams weeks are one of my challenges because I took three exams. I was not confident to pass my AP exams, so I studied endless, as much as possible. I got through all of them. I was shocked that I was actually be able to endure those times in advanced placements courses. I was proud of myself that I got through despite all of the obstacles. I was more prouder when my results of all three AP exams were satisfied. I was able to prove myself that my disability would not infer with my studies. I was able to encourages other students who have disability to work hard to prove themselves that they can do it despite their disability. The moment of those times when you have successfully made it out with all of those hardships, came off relieved and nice to have those times, all of the positives things that encouraged you and all of the negatives things that may discouraged you, but eventually motivated you more than before.
