Avoiding Procrastination by Briana - April 2016 Scholarship Essay

Procrastination was one of the mistakes that I made throughout high school. It leads to a large amount of stress. Avoiding procrastination would be one piece of advice that I would give to younger students.
Procrastination is like an addictive drug. Once you try it, you're addicted. After you’ve started to procrastinate on assignments, it’s very difficult to stop. I often found myself procrastinating on assignments throughout my years of high school. There are no positive outcomes of procrastination. It causes people to become very stressed out and angry. Nobody likes the feeling of being very stressed out. When you procrastinate, stress is the major side effect that everyone experiences.
Procrastination also affects peoples’ health. It often causes them to stay up late trying to complete their assignments, which leads to a drastic loss of sleep. Losing sleep isn’t healthy, especially for young students who are getting older.
Developing good habits at a young age will be a huge to benefit to students when they are older. If they learn how to manage time wisely while they are in middle school or early high school, they will be successful in high school and college. Being dual-enrolled my senior year of high school, I learned not to procrastinate and use my time more wisely. Had I gained this skill earlier, I would have had a better time in high school, and not stayed up so late several nights, trying to cram in a project.
Not procrastinating and learning to use time wisely is one very important piece of advice that I would give to younger students. It will help them all around become a better student, and give them a useful skill. Learning to not procrastinate is something that will benefit everyone, and it’s something that I wish I would have learned when I was younger.
