Resolution turned Habit by Beza - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
I have many New Year's Resolutions just like many other people. I tell myself that I will lose weight or eat healthier, the normal and cliché things to have as resolutions. But those resolutions are not the resolutions that I am so strongly trying to achieve and become successful at in 2016. Being a successful person and student is the resolution that is number one overall.
Now being a successful student has always been my goal but I have never really taken it seriously until junior year of high school and I realized that I kind of have to actually study and not just rely on my natural intelligence on homework and tests. So in order to achieve this goal I thought that I would study longer and harder, take notes on everything that came out of the teacher's mouth, and read my textbook like a madwoman. It took approximately one week for that to completely disappear from my routine.
I wondered why I was so willing to quit so easily on something that seemed almost clear that I wanted. It wasn't until basketball practice later that day and the coach's words that made me realize that I was lacking motivation. I didn't motivate myself to study and take notes. I wasn't motivating myself so therefore I found it useless to keep at it for more than a week. Self-motivation is what I have been missing all along.
So after realizing an almost obvious and much needed concept, I decided to make my New Year's Resolution for 2016 self-motivation. I firmly believe that self-motivation will help me become the successful student that I strive to be. Also, it will help me become a successful person in general! Motivation is required to do almost anything that you want to perform well at so making it my New Year's Resolution for 2016 is the first step of having a successful life. Motivation will be my New Year's Resolution until it becomes a natural habit.
