If I were a teacher by Bariisaa - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

If I were a teacher, what subject would I teach? I would want to teach math because it is a subject that I loved growing up as a child. Math is used in our everyday lives and is essential to know when you're working at your job or even filing taxes. I love math and education and also interacting with young adults giving them the guidance and help they need to be successful in life. I encourage kids to dream big and to think beyond their abilities and to positively impact the future of our world. Growing up as a kid I always had a special relationship with my teachers where I could always get help and comfort when I needed it.

Hey, my name is Bariisaa Sultan and I'm a senior at David Douglas High School class of 2017. I'm a first generation student meaning I was born here but my parents were born in Ethiopia. Growing up in a house hold of seven kids and parents who work throughout the day isn't easy, especially when you're a student athlete who tries to balance between school, sports, and watching over the kids while your parents are gone. Going to college to is a must for me and earning scholarships is something tat would really benefit me.
