Focusing with ADHD by Ava - April 2024 Scholarship Essay
As someone with ADHD, I've often struggled with maintaining focus and motivation for prolonged periods of time. Ironically, these two aspects have now become my greatest driving forces in pursuing my academic goals.
The biggest driver of my academic pursuits is my inherent curiosity. This curiosity has been a constant companion, fuelling my interest in the Sciences and Dance and urging me to delve deeper into these disciplines. Whether it was comprehending a complex scientific concept or interpreting choreography, my curiosity has ensured that no question in my mind remains unanswered. It is this unquenchable thirst for knowledge that has allowed me not only to navigate my studies despite ADHD but to excel in them.
In my earlier years, I had a tumultuous relationship with school. Grappling with ADHD meant having to constantly combat the instinct to disengage and the desire to apply learned knowledge immediately. However, retrospect has offered a silver lining in how these very challenges have evolved into a steadfast motivation. Every hurdle I stumbled upon made it all the more compelling to prove my mettle, to push against the stereotypical notions surrounding students with ADHD.
The journey to overcome such obstacles was a rocky one, yet it led me to a state where I now hold the capacity to fully engage with what I am passionate about. It brings a sense of privilege which, in turn, inspires responsibility to make the most of each day. This conciliation with ADHD has not just bettered my academic performance but also amplified my interest in dancing. It is through this medium that I channel my energies and portray the chaotic beauty that resonates with my life's experiences.
This scholarship from Varsity Tutors will be instrumental in realizing my Academic and Artistic endeavours. It will equip me with necessary resources to hone my skills and broaden my horizons for future prospects. Most importantly, it will stand as a testament that one's adversities can indeed be turned into their strength. This, in turn, would validate my continuous efforts to excel as a student with ADHD.
In conclusion, my undying curiosity, coupled with the personal drive shaped by the challenges borne out of ADHD, motivates me to stay focused on my academic goals. As I step into college life, these rabid facets of motivation are all the more relevant as they chart the course for my future. I am therefore eager and excited for what the years ahead hold, prepared to tackle whatever challenges they may present and determined to convert every stumbling block into a stepping stone towards success.
