Triumphant for the Children by Autumn - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
As I have grown up I have realized my true passions in life: arguing, defending the underdogs, and helping others. I grew up in an abusive home where I had no voice. I did not even understand at times that I was being abused. I just tried to survive. To make a long story short my case eventually went to trial and as I watched my case be tried I made a realization. I want to be a lawyer for the District Attorney’s Office.
Due to the amount of college credits I already have from AP Courses and Dual Enrollment I will finish my undergraduate and law school in five years. This makes me three years younger than most law school graduates which gives me more time in the long run to specialize. I want to specialize in child abuse cases to help children like me.
In ten years I see myself working in the DA’s Office using my education to better the lives of abused to children. Children abuse cases require a certain amount of strength on the victim’s part, and strong people to be there for them. I have been through the process and understand. I will be a good person for those children to lean on.
Also I plan to use my past and my education to improve the judicial system for the abused children. In my experience and in those whom I have talked to the current system hurts children and makes them suffer. I want to lobby congress to improve the laws for children. I do not feel that the government does enough to protect children and I plan to change that.
