Making a Difference and Acheiving Dreams by Austen Marie - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.” - Jane Goodall

I want to make a difference in the world. I want to use my gifts to uphold our freedoms outlined by the Constitution. I want to see America thrive again. Because of this, my goal is to graduate from college with a pre-law/business degree and, afterwards, attend law school. Specifically, I am very interested in becoming a constitutional lawyer. Following law school, I plan on breaking into the political realm and hopefully running for an office or a seat in Congress. Being a lawyer not only uses my gifts and strengths, but is also an area that I am very passionate about. One thing I love about becoming a lawyer is that it is something I can do while being a mom. In short, by becoming a lawyer, I will be able to help stand up for our freedoms and help America stay true to its founding beliefs. I can and will make a difference.
How will I fund these dreams? Hampered by limited resources, I am seeking sources of financial aid. My dad has been unemployed since February 2015. My family even sold our land for money to pay for just the necessities. Although I have received a small scholarship for soccer, I am still left with a huge amount left to pay. My family wishes they could help, however, they don’t have the resources. Union University is my dream school and not being able to attend it because of financial reasons would be devastating. My financial need to pursue my dreams is great. Receiving this scholarship would be such a blessing and help my dream come to pass.
