Do the Impossible, For Anything is Possible by Ashton - April 2014 Scholarship Essay
Emerging from the darkness he comes. He is alone, isolating himself from society. He tries his best to never fail, never lose, and never give up. He has succeeded, fighting his way to the top, but not at what he truly wanted to. He looks back upon his work. Was it worth it in the end? That was Ender Wiggin's life in Ender's Game.
I, like Ender, have worked through immense darkness. Although, I have learned that you do not want to stay isolated from society. The only true way to stay sane is to have at least someone to talk to. Pushing through, my faith in success, I fight onward to my goals. I believe I can succeed, but it takes enormous amounts of courage.
Education is no one man job. There are always people there to help, and there to push you along. Like Ender, I have discovered that these people may not always be my age. They may be adults, such as teachers or leaders. There are also many battles to fight, and each one is unique in the way it is fought. My thinking in strategy, in manipulation, and in communication are all ever-changing as I learn more and more about each person and issue I must deal with. Each new victory coming at a price. Each loss taking its toll upon my heart and mind.
I cried out, for help, in hopes that someone would realize something was wrong. Help never seemed to come. I am how I am for it, but not for what happened. I am this way because a higher power, God, has opened my eyes now to things I could not see at first. Now I am better for it. Help did not come, but not because there was not help, but because I did not truly need it.
I look out now at battles I fought alone. I know now that I can make it through them. So few now are faced alone though. I let in society and I have been offered so much. Though I may disagree with the way some view each issue, I will always have my wing-men. I will fight alongside them as they have fought alongside me. If they are down I shall help them up.
I may fail today, but I shall never truly fail. I allow for each mistake, each downfall, as a step towards success. I walk out into the light. I am surrounded by my friends and followers, and I say to all, “Nothing, no matter the challenge, is impossible when you set your heart to it.”
