New Achievement Unlocked by Anvi - August 2023 Scholarship Essay

Now over the years, I've had my fair share of academic achievements. Whether it was getting into an honors society, being the president of three clubs, or winning awards in state and national level competitions, there was one accomplishment that stood out the most; getting a C. Now you’re probably wondering how this could possibly be an achievement but in my case, we were in the “never done before” territory. Throughout my entire life, my report card was always full of As and Bs. Getting a C was something I never thought I would do, so ya this was an achievement, a bittersweet one. It was my Algebra 2/Trig Math class in my sophomore year right after COVID. Now this class was HARD, after being online all year I felt unprepared and overwhelmed.
However, when I say this was an achievement I really meant it. Sure I didn’t like how it looked on my transcript, but it pushed me in my studies just so I could prevent it from happening again and that is exactly how I will use it in the future to support my goals. In college, I want to get a degree in biochemical engineering and as I look ahead there are many challenging classes to come. Remembering how I got a C and how terrible it felt will only encourage me to work harder and keep my grades up. To reach your goals you must put in the effort and that is exactly what this C is doing for me. By harnessing the lessons I learned from failure and embracing a growth mindset I have transformed my disappointment into a source of motivation that will help me reach my future goals.
