Becoming my very best self by Antwan - April 2024 Scholarship Essay

What motivates me to pursue my academic goals and keeps me motivated is:
My name is Antwan Settlers Jr. I am 17 years old and looking to further my education and receive the training that the Army ROTC program can give to me to reach my goal of becoming an Officer in the US Army. I believe my hard work, leadership skills, communication skills, and the ability to work well as a member of a team or group well, I believe this will be a positive attribute to the Army ROTC program.
I have the qualities to be a positive role model with my fellow cadets. I am trustworthy, confident, loyal, honest, reliable, and take full accountability for my responsibilities and actions. I would love to empower my fellow peers/cadets as I have my teammates on the basketball, football, and baseball team. I would gladly take the initiative to complete task others may not want to do or are not as confident to take on.
I encourage feedback from my superiors because it pushes me to do better and to be better. I understand my role with a team and work hard to get better in the role that I am assigned to no matter how big or how small. I believe being in an environment with other cadets it will help me as a person also to grow because I will have friends that share my same goals which will also help to make the process to complete easy as we will be able to encourage one another and understand the obstacles and challenges that we all will face throughout the years as a Cadet.
If I am approved for the ROTC Scholarship this would be a blessing for me as well as my family. My mother is unable to provide financially for me to pursue my education without being placed in financial hardship. I would be the first in my family to join the military and my family supports me 100%.
How I typically stay focus during a typical week of school, I spend my time fully engaged and active 90% of the time. Monday through Friday I attend school of course and when school dismiss at 3:40pm I head to some form of practice depending on the season it could be football, basketball, baseball, and ROTC. I normally will make it home after 6pm and game nights it is always later close to 1030pm-11pm. I spend time studying and working on class assignments, homework or catching up on assignments that I may be behind on due to being involved in extracurricular activities. I started working last year my first job where I picked up 20-25 hours so my time is spent doing things that I enjoy and will help me get to the next level in life which at this point has been to graduate high school.
