Learning to Love Again by AnnMarie - August 2022 Scholarship Essay
For this upcoming year, my academic goal is to enjoy learning, something I feel I lost in my pursuit of finishing my senior year. Goals are helpful as they give the goal-setter a direction. My high school graduation was two years early, and like most Americans, I am now starting the next chapter of my life, higher education.
For this new chapter, I will be entirely online for academics, which is something I have never experienced before since I was homeschooled and covid did not impact my classroom. I am obtaining a flight degree, so I will be at my new flight school two to five times a week for flight lessons, which is also brand new to me.
I could have chosen anything as my academic goal, and it would not only answer the prompt but also make perfect sense. I might aspire to reach and maintain a 4.0-grade average, which is completely clear. I always strive for perfection, no matter the feasibility. My goal could be to connect with other people in my university who have the same major as I do so I can make academic friends. I want to get my private pilot's license by December, which is a lot of hard work and time. I think my stated goal encompasses all of these. My goal is to enjoy learning, grow in knowledge, and love school. I always have loved learning but the closer I have gotten to starting college the more terrified I have become. Logic states you cannot love something that terrifies you. To dispose of my fear of the unknown, my academic goal for the upcoming year is to find my love of learning again. Goals help the goal-setter accomplish their goal, meaning I am one step closer to having an enjoyable year in which I am loving my classwork and flying.
