The Purpose of an Education

In America, people are given the opportunity at the American Dream. A part of the Dream is getting a good education in order to pursue a promising career. People from all over the world come to America to get a good education that otherwise isn't available to the. The purpose of an education is to acquire the necessary skills of life that are required for one's next step in his or her career. Possessing these skills advances the individual in whatever he or she does.

Nelson Mandela once said, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." Education comes in many different forms that are either formal or informal. Everyday one learns something new. Typically, children begin their education in kindergarten then work their way through grade school, middle school, and high school. The next step is either to go off to college or be in the work force. Whether one goes off to college or not, an education of some form is important in order to gain knowledge of the expertise he or she is going to be performing in the future.

As American's we are lucky that an education is attainable to all, whether boy or girl. In other countries, girls are not always allowed to go to school. Also, school is not always an option in some countries when the kids have to work or there aren't schools to attend. Americans should not take advantage of an education. Sometimes we grumble and complain about having to go to school when really we should be grateful that we are able to go to school. We get the opportunity to learn new things and make ourselves smarter. As Mandela said, an education is a powerful weapon. One can use an education to further themselves in life. With an education, one can change the world.

As an educated individual, one has many different career options. He or she can do anything he or she wants. Often times, the person with the most education is the most qualified for the position. He or she has the most knowledge on the specific subject. This is why doctors and lawyers must have so many years of school: they need to be experts in their careers. The purpose of an education is to make oneself smarter and more knowledgeable. The ones with schooling have the ability to make scientific advancements and be world leaders. In Pakistan Malala Yousafza wanted an education and was shot by the Taliban for it. She wanted to have a chance at becoming the world's next great doctor or leader. Everyone around the world should have the opportunity at an education.

Getting a good education is important to me. I enjoy learning new things, and I am thankful for the opportunity to go to school everyday. The purpose of am education is to educate: to gain understanding of the world and how it works. If one has an education, one will perform amazing things.
