Why I want to go to the Ross School of Business by Anjal - November 2023 Scholarship Essay

My journey into the business world has been transformative, from reselling sneakers with my venture, 404hypeshop, to interning at State Farm, where I honed my skills in selling insurance. Eventually, I delved into technology entrepreneurship with CloudScale Solutions, a company I founded that specializes in providing CRM software to businesses. Through these experiences, I have realized that I am not just selling products but also selling myself – my ideas, my passion, and my vision for the future. My goal is to become the best entrepreneur I can be, and I am determined to achieve this with a strong focus on technology. This aspiration aligns perfectly with my ambitions, making the University of Michigan's Ross School of Business an ideal fit. Ever since I introduced my startup idea, "Nonicate," at the 2023 InnovateUNG Pitch competition, the startup world has captivated me. Nonicate, an application that translates emotions during video calls, addresses a critical problem in communication. The primary aim of the app was to empower individuals with disabilities, especially children with developmental delay, to communicate more effortlessly with others. This venture led me to a network of brilliant tech enthusiasts and entrepreneurs, kindling a passion I'm eager to explore further at the Ross School of Business.

At Ross, the focus isn't just on learning business theories; it's about real, hands-on experiences. The "Ross Experiences in Action-Based Learning" (REAL) program is the immersive, practical learning environment I need. Beginning with REAL Start as my entry into the University's startup scene, I see a reflection of my journey from Nonicate towards potentially larger and more impactful projects. I intend to actively participate in tech startups through the Desai accelerator program, enabling me to tap into Ann Arbor's rich entrepreneurial community and the world-class University of Michigan ecosystem. This kind of learning is vital for someone like me, who learns best by doing. Beyond startups, the REAL Advise, REAL Invest, and REAL Lead components offer a spectrum of experiences from advisory roles to investment analysis and leadership development. This variety ensures that I won't just be studying business – I'll be living it. My journey at Ross will be about more than acquiring knowledge; it'll be about nurturing a mindset geared toward continuous improvement and collaboration, essential qualities for any successful entrepreneur.

Moreover, Ross's commitment to global experiences resonates deeply with me. Engaging with diverse business cultures and practices worldwide is a crucial step in understanding the global marketplace and developing a nuanced perspective on international business strategies. As someone who thrives on connecting ideas, cultures, and people, these global opportunities are doorways to understanding how business impacts society across different cultures.

The Ross School of Business fits seamlessly with my entrepreneurial spirit and aspirations. Beyond gaining skills and knowledge, I'll forge connections and become part of a diverse, collaborative community. At Ross, I see an environment where I can refine my abilities to communicate and innovate, taking my passion for startups to new heights and broadening my understanding of business dynamics. My entrepreneurial journey so far was just the beginning, and at Ross, I'm ready to write the next chapters, filled with innovative ideas, impactful collaborations, and transformative experiences.
