Benefits Of An Education by Angelica - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

The question shouldn’t be what is the purpose of an education but what are the benefits of having an education because obtaining an education can bring great significance to society. There are many benefits when one decides to pursue an education, one being that an education enables individuals to perform better in society. Meaning that when an individual chooses to educate themselves they are improving overall health, promoting active citizenship, improving social status, and also opening doors to higher employment opportunities and income.

Educated people tend to live longer than those without a secondary education because more than likely someone with an education has a career paying job with an income that will improve social outcomes. When and individual has the education for a career they will be paid more and not be as stressed financially. Basically an education can provide peach of mind.

Educated individuals are also going to associate with people you surround themselves with like minded people. I’ve always heard that the five people you hang around the most will have an affect on your life. So if you want to lose weight then hang around those that are on the same path and if you want to get a degree then associate with those that are in the same boat with you, don’t hang around a bunch of gamers. So basically its important to get an education to associate with educated individuals because more than likely you will succeed in life and fulfill your goals.

Educated people also tend to be more involved in the community as well because when an individual is knowledgeable with then it it makes you want to participate more in civic activities to uphold good Samaritan duties. Such as voting, volunteering, political interest, and keeping the crime rate to a minimum. So the purpose of an education is to be knowledgeable about whats going on in the world.

With an education you feel worthy and important versus if you just have a high school diploma to work for a retail or fast food industry can make an individual feel replaceable. Having a sense of importance in society is such a rewarding feeling and will help an individual to strive to push themselves mentally and emotionally.

When an individual seeks out an eduction they get the chance to meet all different walks of life such as other individuals with different cultural backgrounds, which is significant for exploring and broadening your horizon because no one can take away your education.
