Insight into Cultures by Amanda - August 2018 Scholarship Essay

Hello, hola, bonjour, salaam, and jambo! We all have our own customs, communication, and cultures based on where we live in the world. Our lives in the United States are drastically different than the lives of those in Italy, Israel, or Indonesia. These diverse qualities make each culture unique. Therefore, I have decided to make a podcast to allow listeners to get a glimpse of different cultures from around the world.
Cultures are distinguished by their beliefs, values, art, and literature. Learning about other cultures without travelling to countries may be difficult as one cannot experience it firsthand. The podcast, however, provides insight into other cultures for its listeners.
Every week there are two to three guest stars who come and discuss their cultures and traditions with us. From holidays to language, music, and art, these guests will answering interview questions pertaining to their lifestyle and providing the listeners with a glimpse of their cultures.
Learning about other cultures from around the world offers different perspectives on various topics and ideas. These new perspectives allow oneself to open their mind to the beliefs and values of others, whom they aren't typically exposed to. Additionally, learning about other cultures reduces the belief in stereotypes and enable the learner to understand and respect the customs and lifestyles of others.
The goal of this podcast is to expand the listener’s knowledge of international cultures by providing an interesting means of learning.
