Strategy to Success by Alyssa - December 2017 Scholarship Essay

As I have progressed through school, my project completion habits have changed to meet my needs each year. My habits continued to be fine tuned to each subject as I entered middle and high school. I went from capturing attention with flashy sound effects and backgrounds to using pure knowledge to captivate my audience. For math or science, I use charts, data and research. For subjects like English and History, I use pictures and facts to receive the best grade possible. Despite a lot of changes, one thing has remained constant for me. I never procrastinate on my projects and am always done at least one day before the project is due.
A lot of my friends claim that procrastination assists them in doing a better job on their project. For me, it is only a one way ticket to disaster. When I used procrastination, I found that I was submitting projects with spelling, formatting and grammatical errors that I otherwise would not have missed. I also concluded that my research was weak, if not completely inaccurate, due to rushing to complete the assignment. This caused my grades to suffer and made my life a lot more difficult than if I had just began the project when I received the rubric.
Procrastination not only causes problems for me, but also for members of my group. At my school, group projects are a mandatory component of most courses. Due to this requirement, my grades have become victims of multiple group members that decide to procrastinate on their part. It is evident due to the spelling and grammatical errors that can be seen in what they wrote. This leads to the rest of the group doing their work for them just so they can maintain their grades. This is not fair to them because most students do not have time to do more than their share of work because of other courses, clubs and sports.
To sum up my point, beginning to work on the assignment when it is received leads to optimal results. The work is the best that can be done and your grades reflect it. So, in order to succeed, do not procrastinate.
