Opportunity Is Out There by Alexis - November 2016 Scholarship Essay
College can be a very rewarding experience. There are multiple opportunities presented, most of which can have an incredible influence on our futures. We get international study opportunities, specific classes for the fields we are interested in, and more groups we can join. In college we truly find ourselves which is why it is such an important time of our lives. We receive our first experience in the "real world" so to speak. The college experience that I look forward to most is the opportunity to learn in many different styles and meet different kinds of people. There are many reasons I have for looking forward to this.
Meeting new people exposes us to different life styles and backgrounds, which is a big reason as to why I look forward to this college experience. There are often times better ways of doing things that we may not think of if we do not explore the way different people accomplish the same task. For example, I could make a cup of coffee one way and someone else could make it another. However, I wouldn't know if the other person has a quicker, simpler, or easier way to make coffee if I never meet them. I feel as though meeting new people is an extraordinary source for inspiration and learning.
Secondly, I love the idea of finding new ways to learn material. I believe that engaging in different ways of learning material allows us to learn more. It opens our eyes to the fact that different people have different ideas which can sometimes improve the way we do things. This experience of meeting new people is what excites me the most. I love hearing and seeing the different ways people do things. It intrigues me and in college we have the optimal opportunity to do so.
Overall, I would say that meeting new people and being able to exchange my ideas with a large audience is the thing I look forward to most in my upcoming school years. The simple idea that I have the opportunity to be heard by a large number of people excites me. I can get my voice out there and contribute my knowledge to better helping people. As a future college student, that means more to me than anything. I want to be able to inspire and help others. This is why I look forward to meeting new people and finding new ways to learn.
