Quick Take on Education by Alexander - October 2022 Scholarship Essay

My personal stance on education is that it's important to have it wherever you're at in life and wherever you're going next. Taking the time to educate yourself keeps you well-informed and knowledgeable about the world around you. You've made for yourself a tool belt of ideas and skills gathered from your classes in high school or college. Writing and math are examples of such ideas and skills. From this toolkit, you can use what you need in your job or career. Concepts in writing and math are foundational in STEM careers, such as engineering or computer science. I'm taking courses on them right now to prepare myself for the latter and open myself up to several opportunities in software development and IT.

I also believe that education is a journey and not a destination. You're thinking, "I need to get my diploma and a college degree, and I'm done. No more school. " In actuality, you must constantly educate and inform yourself of what's currently happening in your career. You're more aware of what's changed in the field, and you can adapt and adjust to it more. In my case, as a software developer, I'll need to read about the most recent vulnerabilities, exploits, and bugs to keep my apps safe and secure. One will intrude and wreak havoc if I don't. Sensitive or private information could be exposed. That could cost me my job or damage my coding reputation.
