Changing Lives by Alayanna - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

When people think of the organization National Honor Society, they think of scholars. They think of people who have done well in school and who are smart. After I joined this organization as a sophomore, I realized that this wasn't what the group was about. I found out that having good grades was not the only requirement for getting chosen for this group. You were also chosen based on your leadership skills and your character. This surprised me. I did not realize at the time that having good character and leadership skills is what makes people that one step up above everyone. It is not your grades or how smart you are, it is how you got there and how you teach others around you to be like that.

National Honor Society has helped shape me into a better individual. It has made me realize what I need to do to become a leader and be able to share that with others around me. This organization is so much more than people realize. Being involved in this group, shows you the skills you need to obtain to help make the world and the people in it better. I owe this organization for helping create the person I am today.
