Raking Up Volunteer Hours by Aiden - April 2022 Scholarship Essay

Volunteering can be one of the most gratifying experiences one can have. One is able to help out others that either can’t do it themselves or contribute to something out of good will. Either path that one may take to embark in a volunteering activity is certainly a good one and will lead to a satisfying experience.
Personally, the main volunteering task I think of that I participated in is Rake Up Mountain Home. This was sponsored by the National Honors Society at my high school and I was lucky enough to help out. The goal was to go to poorer or disabled homes who had their lawns and gardens filled with leaves from the autumn season. Together as a group we split up and raked up multiple houses over the course of the day.
The reason why I always love to talk about this is because of how much fun it was. I was not able to help out others but I got to hang out with other friends of mine in the National Honors Society. And raking leaves can always be fun. While we were definitely there to work we had some laughs and giggles, including jumping in piles.
Overall, it was a great experience and I have returned to each year since my first. I love helping others and having a good time while I’m at it. Just a win-win in many ways.
