Where I Want to Be in 10 Years by Addison - December 2015 Scholarship Essay

In 10 years, I see myself living in a big city with my family. I plan on getting to this goal with my academics. I want to have graduated from a 4 year university with honors. I want to get a degree in marketing and in insurance with a minor in accounting. I want to eventually go and get my masters.
Growing up, I always thought that I wanted to be something that changed the world. When I was a little girl I knew that my job would be a Disney Princess. When I got a little older, I realized that probably wasn’t going to happen and I needed to look into another career field. That other career field happened to be Insurance and Marketing.
Insurance sparked my interest the day I received hands on experience with it. My grandpa was the head agent for State Farm Insurance in my town. Over the summer I got the privilege to help him out from time to time, and I really enjoyed it. I liked the interaction I got with the customers and being able to help people when they needed it. I found out quickly that insurance is the right fit for me. I recently got to job shadow an insurance agent that works in my town and I absolutely loved it. I learned so much from my experience. While job shadowing, I got to experience in detail what the life of an insurance agent is like. I got to put in insurance payments and even started a couple quotes on different houses. This opportunity made me want to pursue a career in insurance even more.
Another area that I have an interest in is the field of marketing. Marketing caught my eye when I started getting involved in my school. I learned that I love to plan and promote events. I believe I have a very creative imagination and I want to be able to show that through my job. While in the experiences I have had in the insurance field, I have noticed that an interest in marketing is a good skill to have.
I have gotten the opportunity to speak to people that have had experience in the marketing field. From speaking to these people I have learned what is expected and what it takes to have a career in marketing. I believe that I have all the qualities needed to really succeed in the marketing industry. Although it may be challenging to begin a career in marketing, my passion and determination for what I do will help me excel in this field of study.
My main career goal is to find a job that challenges me as well as gives me a sense of satisfaction with my accomplishments. I want to always better myself. Therefore, I want a job that will allow me to not only grow as a person but also as a productive member of society. Giving back to those who have helped support me in my endeavors and my community is a passion of mine. I hope to someday be in charge of a company or own my own company. Leadership is a quality of mine that I take pride in. I believe that with my leadership skills I will one day be able to fulfill my dreams of owning or co-owning a company. I want to find a job that will not only benefit me but eventually benefit my family as well.
