The Middle Level Verbal section of the ISEE tests your child’s linguistics abilities in two areas: synonyms and inferences. Each of these aspects are vital to development as your child progresses into upper level language arts courses. Throughout the test, they have about 30 seconds to spend on each question, totaling out to 40 questions in 20 minutes. Your child will need to have strong vocabulary skills, and be able to think quickly. You and your child can use Varsity Tutors’ Learning Tools to prepare for the ISEE Middle Level Verbal section, either as a refresher beforehand or to work alongside your child’s classwork. Practice is a big factor in maintaining and improving skills. The Question of the Day offers your child the chance to flex those skills on a daily basis while providing them with information that allows them to identify their weak areas.
With the Learning Tools, your child has access to free daily ISEE Middle Level Verbal section practice at the touch of their fingers. They can mix and match the tools to create their own custom study regimen. Your child may use the Question of the Day to choose the concept they will study through the Learn by Concept tool and flashcards, or take the full-length practice tests to evaluate their word recognition skills. Your child can work on bolstering their confidence, which can help ensure consistent success, as well as keep their mind engaged.
The Question of the Day is a random question based on the Middle Level Verbal section of ISEE practice tests, providing your child with a text to read through, and four choices to choose from. The questions that will be displayed are ones that your child is likely to come across while they are taking the actual ISEE test. They may be quizzed on using prefixes, roots, and suffixes to choose synonyms, how to identify the appropriate synonym for words that have multiple meanings, synonyms for verbs, nouns, and adjectives, and sentence completions based on context clues and parts of speech. You can pair the Question of the Day with their current coursework to reinforce and practice concepts as your child learns them, strengthening their memory.
After your child answers the questions, they are given the correct answer and a detailed explanation of the concept, how it applies, and why it works. Other data shown by the daily question is your child’s percentile and a breakdown of how well they’ve been doing in the subject area. Each question is timed, allowing you to see how the speed of your child’s reaction. This is particularly beneficial while studying for the ISEE Middle Level Reading section given the limited amount of time they will have to answer the questions during the test.
When your child visits the site’s Learning Tools, they can choose to answer the ISEE Middle Level Verbal Question of the Day each day. They can also choose to use additional Varsity Tutors’ Learning Tools to look at the concepts in even more depth.
