Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of McMurry College where I earned a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree. My current teaching fields include Secondary English (6-12), Secondary Health and Physical Education (6-12), All Level Physical Education (PK-12), and Driver Education (6-12). I have previously been certified in Special Education (EC-12), Mathematics 4-8; Generalist EC-6, and Secondary Mathematics 6-12. I earned a Master of Education degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
I spent twenty-eight years teaching elementary, junior high, and high school English classes. In addition, I taught a few math classes during my tenure as a teacher and high school principal in the public school system. I knew in my heart from the time I was in seventh grade that I wanted to be a teacher, and I worked hard to make that dream come true. Teaching was truly a passion of mine because I enjoyed it immensely. I enjoy working with students and rejoice with them when they are successful. As a teacher, I analyzed student data, planned, and implemented tutorial materials for students who were struggling to learn different concepts.
I have also worked as an independent contractor assisting schools with their tutorial programs. Schools that did not meet federal requirements were targeted for required improvement in their state assessment scores. I have collaborated with these schools to analyze the student data and plan the tutorial program that assisted the school in making the required improvements.
I am approved to tutor in elementary mathematics, English, English Grammar and Syntax, and middle school math. My favorite area to tutor includes upper-level elementary (5th and 6th grade) mathematics. I believe that all children can learn, but all children do not learn in the same way and at the same rate. I assess a child's level and style of learning and adapt my teaching to the individual child. I understand state assessment requirements for testing and work hard to deliver instruction that will enable students to be successful on state assessments.
