Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. I hold a Bachelor's degree in English and a Master's degree in Communications. I am certified in the state of Texas to teach Special Education from early childhood to 12th grade. I have been teaching middle to high school students (grades 7-12) as a Special Education Inclusion teacher for 2 years at a College Preparatory school. As an inclusion teacher, my responsibility is to teach students, who require specialized instruction and assistance in the classroom environment, in collaboration with general education teachers. I specialize in teaching students with ADHD, dyslexia, autism, emotional disorders, and specific learning disabilities in the areas of math, reading fluency and reading comprehension. Given this experience and area of specialization, I am able to quickly adapt to my learners and their needs. Since I primarily teach middle-high school level math and English classes, I consider these subjects to be my main areas of expertise. However, my personal interests and academic background are in English Language Arts and Communications, and therefore am open to providing tutoring sessions in specific subjects such as creative writing, journalism, advanced literature, studies of media, and language and society. No matter the subject, I am passionate about influencing and motivating students to strive to be the best version of themselves, no matter what level they are currently performing at. I find immense joy in watching my students show growth and progress in their skills, and seeing them get excited about their own growth and progress is an even greater pay off. I hold a firm belief that ALL students are capable of learning and capable of enjoying learning, and therefore approach teaching/tutoring with the belief that my students CAN accomplish their goals. Thus far in my experience, this approach to educating students has proven to be successful in motivating and inspiring my students to put forth the hard work and effort needed to show growth and, ultimately, be successful.
