Certified Tutor
I am a Duke University graduate with a degree in Geology and extensive coursework in cultural studies. My diverse educational background has laid a strong foundation in various subjects. After completing my degree, I pursued a multifaceted career in media and animation, further reinforcing my belief in the power of education and the value of all knowledge. My experiences in the professional world have shown me the importance of learning how to learn, as my background in physics, seismology, and microbiology proved to be invaluable assets in my media career. As a former homeschooled student, I have firsthand experience with the benefits of one-on-one tutoring and can effectively apply this understanding to my teaching methods.
Having worked in the Duke University admissions office for two years, I am well-acquainted with the requirements of top-tier schools and know what it takes to excel academically. Over the years, I have gained experience in both tutoring and teaching in various settings, working with a diverse range of students, including young children and professionals such as doctors. My expertise spans subjects like English as a second language, finance, science, and more, catering to students of different age ranges and skill levels.
My tutoring approach extends beyond simply teaching; I also help students develop essential skills to excel academically and perform well on standardized tests. My teaching philosophy emphasizes making the most of one's resources and focusing on attainable, incremental improvements. Rather than striving for seemingly impossible goals, I concentrate on consistent, step-by-step progress that leads to meaningful gains.
A significant barrier to learning is becoming disillusioned and stopping altogether. To address this, my strategy involves celebrating small successes in each tutoring session and encouraging students to take further steps outside our meetings. By providing a supportive environment, I aim to help students reach their full potential and achieve their best.
