My interest in working with individuals with varying exceptionalities began when I was in high school and I knew I wanted to pursue a career helping others. I began by gaining volunteer experience working with students with specific educational needs. This included peer counseling for those having behavioral and social difficulties, as well as, tutoring elementary-aged children, who had learning difficulties in core subject areas, with an emphasis on reading comprehension and writing skills.
I believe in the holistic philosophy regarding the educational needs of my students and strive to obtain the skills needed to improve my effectiveness as an educator, to ensure positive learning gains and refine the skills necessary to promote academic achievement.
I completed my Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of Wisconsin- Stout. I have ten years of teaching experience in the area of Exceptional Student Education, providing academic support and differentiated instruction in the areas of reading, writing, math and organization skills.
