What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that all students can learn just about anything if it's taught right! I like to focus on problem-solving methods and real-world applications to make learning fun and engaging.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a first session, I want to learn about the student's background and get a feel for the best strategies to help them learn best. This might mean trying a few practice problems or having the student explain a concept to me. I also want to get to know the student, as it's always easier to teach someone when you know them well.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

One of the keys to independent learning is confidence. I want to help a student push themselves to deeply understand concepts and problem-solving techniques, so that they can feel proud about their abilities. Then, they will feel motivated to attack the next lesson.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

The best way to help a student stay motivated is to make learning fun. As cliched as it sounds, by continuously challenging a student, I want to keep them engaged and excited for the next session.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I like to teach difficult concepts by starting with what the student already knows. This helps them feel positive and confident. Then, we can build on what they know and add new concepts piece by piece.
