What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe students learn differently. Immersion, music, repetition and review will lead to much better success.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Giving them a few practice problems in grammar, vocabulary, conjugation and form of verbs.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introduce myself, and listen to the student to find out what areas the student is struggling in.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By allowing a student to use resources available.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Encouraging the student every day.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would go over the skill. Practice, Practice, Practice.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I usually have students translate paragraphs. This helps in understanding.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I found that practice with worksheets, conversation and music helps.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
I usually allow the student to discuss what the day was like, speaking and writing in Spanish.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
I would use worksheets and give them some questions to answer in Spanish.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Encouragement. Go over questions and let the student answer.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
When I see a student struggling, I change directions and proceed with new material.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I use music, flashcards, and worksheets.
