I believe that knowledge holds great value in the happiness and independence of an individual. Even more so, I believe that sharing the wealth of knowledge is a great human priority, which then manifests as exponential growth within communities.

My passion for education became evident when I was given the opportunity to be a Teaching Assistant for my Anatomy and Physiology course in my undergraduate studies. This was when I received a true taste for the satisfaction obtained by empowering others through education.

Currently, I'm working as a Physical Therapist Aide as I prepare for graduate school. My position as an Aide is allowing me to further my knowledge in regards to Health Sciences and Anatomy/Physiology, which I hope to transfer on to my students.

In my free time I enjoy surfing (in the freezing cold NY waters), skateboarding, hockey, fitness, photography, guitar, and writing poetry.

What is your teaching philosophy?

The key to education and learning is to be reminded that there is not one question or subject that you are going through alone. Creating a positive, teamwork based environment can inspire progress in all students.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

An introductory session would most likely begin with an assessment of the student's current knowledge and class level, continued by a discussion of difficulties and misunderstandings in the subject. This information will allow me to help evaluate what type of learner the student is, and how to create a study plan that will best suit them personally.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Becoming an independent learner takes what I like to call "Educational Meditation," which is the ability for the student to look within them and be honest with themselves about what they're doing right and wrong. Once a student is more aware of their learning habits, they can begin working in a manner that will help them become fully independent.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Motivation is a highly intrinsic thing when it comes to studying. With that being said, there are small percentages of extrinsic factors that can go a long way. Finding a way to help students relate to their studies is important for motivation. Furthermore, students should be uplifted to understand their value, and that plants strong seeds for intrinsic motivation for both short-term and long-term goals.
