Certified Tutor

I would like to thank you for choosing me as a part of your child's educational experience. I graduated with a History degree from Montclair State University, and I have the certifications to teach K-12 Social Studies as well as a certification for Teacher of Students with Disabilities.

Next, I will briefly discuss my teaching experience. I have worked at South River Middle School as a long-term replacement Special Education Social Studies Teacher. I was a Resource room teacher for 6th grade US history students and my responsibilities included creation and modification of lesson plans according to the student's documentation. I also had to modify all the assignments according to the student's abilities and make sure that I was still pushing them in order to get them ready for high school or college. Finally, I would supplement the lesson with Videos and reading on a 5th grade level for my 6th graders. Next for my 7th grade World History class, I had to create and modify the lesson plans according to the student's documentation and again modify all the assignments according to the student's abilities and make sure that I was still pushing them in order to get them ready for high school and college. When it came to supplement the lesson, I would use videos once more and reading materials that were on a 6th grade level. I also taught an ABA World History class with all assignments, reading, video, and assessments heavily modified. For my In-Class Support classes I was the Special Education Social Studies Teacher, and my main task was to provide support to any students and with my lead teacher work together as a team to help students with the school work. Currently, I am a Social Studies Educator at Academy of Urban Leadership in which I teach Ancient Civilizations with current events as well. In my class, we also discuss how the ancient civilizations lived, what kind of technological advancements they made and what kind of political/religious ideology they had in their time period. We also discuss how geography played a role in their lives. Finally, the way I incorporate current events is I discuss how the downfall of the ancient civilizations occurred and how the current event issue is relevant to the past. During my prep periods, I also provide students with tutoring in middle school math.

Currently, I can tutor any type of History class, Political, World Religion, Sociology, Geography, and or Geo-Political subjects, as well as Study and Organization skills, because I am a Special Education Educator. The reason as to why I choose these subjects is that I have a personal attachment to these courses and when teaching to the students it is very easy to relate to the subject at hand. My tutoring style is quite simple and it is the same as when I teach in-person, which is to relate the subject at hand to modern times. Secondly, I make sure the students understand what happened in the past and what were the choices made by political and religious figures that affected the course of history. Finally, I see what kind of predictions students can make for the future. When I am not tutoring and/or teaching I love to play video games, watch and play sports, and watch TV and movies. Finally, I know that my vast knowledge of being an educator makes me a perfect tutor for your child.

What is your teaching philosophy?

When a student has a difficulty when it comes to learning a skill or a concept, there are many ways one can tackle the skill or concept that the student wants to learn. One way is that I would come from a different angle with this skill or concept. Another way is I would show a video or short cartoon that goes over the skill or concept. I would also ask the student what they know from this skill and focus on the part they do not understand.
