Certified Tutor

Hello! My name is Malik Blackman and I am a second year Mechanical Engineering student at the University of Illinois at Chicago. I chose to become a Mechanical Engineer because of my passion for mathematics and physics, which stemmed from a very young age. My mother instilled a strong work ethic and zeal inside of me even before I ever stepped foot into a classroom. Because of these foundational skills I have been able to excel academically. During my high school career I was ranked first during my freshman year, and ended in the top 10% of my graduating class. After my first year at the University of Illinois at Chicago, I received at 3.30 GPA. In addition, I have worked as a Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory Intern for the past three summers, starting in the summer of 2014. Working at the lab has allowed me to connect with some of the best engineers and physicists in the world. In addition it has allowed me to gain insight on what a real-world in the field mechanical engineer does, as i was given projects that were related to my field of study. I would like to utilize all of my knowledge and resources to help YOU succeed!

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Normally I would introduce myself to the student and have them share things about themselves. Hopefully we would have some common ground in interests (i.e basketball/sports in general) so I could refer back to this common ground later in a particular problem.

What is your teaching philosophy?

To help others with the knowledge that I have obtained over the years in order to aid in their future success. I would like every student that I tutor to reach their own level of success.
