Certified Tutor
I have a B.A. degree from Florida State University in Fashion Merchandising. I am a certified educator who co-taught elementary students for MDCPS. I have been working with all age level students since 2004. I tutored for America Reads and the Y.W.C.A. students in the subjects of English, reading and writing. I also had the privilege to utilize my creative and artistic skills at various parks at Miami Garden as an Arts and Crafts Coordinator. I cater to each student's unique learning style. I provide unique and innovative ways to teach the subject matter. In addition, I have helped prepare middle and high school students with FCAT and Common Core Exams as well as assisted college students with writing. Whether I am working with struggling students or on-level students, I enjoy helping students get to the next level in Language Arts.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Teach students how to analyze and relate assignments to real life situations. I believe in finding a medium to each child's learning ability, which helps the student grasp the subject matter at their level of comprehension.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Provide a consultation which includes an activity to identify what component the student may be struggling with in Language Arts. Highlight the student's strengths.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Apply the scaffold technique or the Lev Vygotsky theory, which is to guide the learning and then allow the child to lead. I will also further encourage the student to elevate their comprehension.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Apply innovative ways to work with the student.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Find different source of mediums to help the student understand the skill. Back track and teach the skills needed in order to learn the new skill.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Provide reading techniques and strategies that will be used for every reading passage.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
It depends on the student's learning style.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Teach students how to analyze and relate assignments to real life situations.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Review and summarize what was taught. Reverse roles/Role play; student becomes teacher and teacher becomes student.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Provide encouragement and practice repetition on the subject.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Provide a consultation, which is a collection of activities on their grade level.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I would adapt student's need in each tutoring session by distinguishing the child's learning style.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
I used print and online sources such as books, worksheets, videos, apps, and other related educational material.
