I love to teach people new things and I enjoy learning new programming languages in my free time. Programming is an essential thing to learn or study because it improves your logical thought process and critical thinking skills. It also helps you improve your creativity.

There are millions of ways to solve a problem, but it is finding the most efficient ways to solve a problem that will set you apart. My tutoring style is based on understanding concepts due to the fact that most languages share similar attributes. Vocabulary is also very important.

I have obtained a Bachelors degree in Computer Science from North Carolina A&T State University and now work in the industry as a web developer. I tutor Computer Science related topics like Java and other Object-Oriented languages, as well as Study Skills and web development. I am also a percussionist and I play the sextuplets, snare, tonal drum, and drum set.

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that learning is a crucial part of growing in your life. If you are not constantly learning, you aren't going to grow.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would introduce myself and analyze what it is that the student needs to learn to improve their skill in a certain subject.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I can teach them certain patterns and habits that an independent learner has, as well as let them figure out how to do problems based on other examples instead of a verbatim explanation.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Give them a sense of reward for correct answers and boost their confidence.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Change the way I teach it. I would approach it from a different angle.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I break down the subject into simple, concise concepts.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Giving them facts and pairing the facts with examples or concepts.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I try to find what they like and compare the two somehow.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I quiz them or have them reiterate what I taught them for the day.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I give them easier topics to start off.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I figure out how familiar/unfamiliar they are with the subject and we go from there.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?

I feed them the information based on their learning style and confidence in the subject.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I use old tests, vocabulary, coding examples, and true/false questions with explanations.
